[NL]  Ontstaan van ‘t O-tje
Het woon- en werkcomplex ‘t O-tje werd in 2007 stap voor stap in gebruik gegeven. Bijna alle 36 ruimten waren bij stichting NAC (Nieuwe Ateliers Charlois) in beheer. Dit is een onafhankelijk beheersstichting opgezet door kunstenaars om woon- en werk plekken voor (jonge) kunstenaars te genereren en de culturele activiteiten in Rotterdam te intensiveren, met een speciale aandacht voor de deelgemeente Charlois. In samenwerking met de woningcorporaties beheert zij de leegstand in Charlois. De gebruiksvergoeding die de kunstenaars moeten betalen wordt weer ingezet middels een eigen cultuurfonds. De herinrichting van de bouwlocatie werd mogelijk gemaakt door woningcorporatie Vestia Feijenoord, de Gebiedscommissie Charlois en stichting NAC.

Eind 2009 werd de opening van De Kas gevierd, de tuinruimte op het braakterrein dat grenst aan de Bakkerstraat. Onder leiding van kunstenaars zijn de leerlingen van groep 5 en 6 van de o.b.s de Triangel en enkele ouders begonnen met de aanleg voor een grote moestuin. Inmiddels wordt De Kas ook door de buurt gebruikt voor activiteiten en tuingebruik.

Sinds maart 2015 staat de stichting ‘t O-tje op eigen benen. De bewoners van de woonblokken aan de Nieuwenhoornstraat 133–143, Verboomstraat 174–184 en de Struitenweg 52 hebben het beheer over de besloten tuinen en de daarbij behorende ruimtes. ‘t O-tje is a non-profit organisatie die als doel heeft de leef omgeving van ‘t Otje en te verbeteren en de artistieke ontwikkeling van de kunstenaars zichtbaar te maken.

[EN]  The Beginning of ‘t Otje
The residential- and commercial complex ‘t O-tje was given in 2007, step by step in use. Nearly all 36 apartments were managed by NAC Foundation (New Ateliers Charlois). This is an independent management foundation created by artists living and working to generate places for (young) artists and intensify cultural activities in Rotterdam, with a special focus on the district Charlois. In collaboration with the housing associations it manages vacant properties in Charlois. The usage fee to be paid by the artists is again deployed by a private cultural fund. The new building site was made possible by the housing corporation Vestia Feijenoord, the Gebiedscommissie Charlois and foundation NAC.

At the end of 2009, the opening of De Kas was celebrated, the garden space on the side of the Baker street. Students of group 5 and 6 of the o.b.s the Triangle and some parents started the construction of a large vegetable garden under the guidance of artists. Meanwhile, De Kas is also used by the neighborhood for activities and garden use.

Since March 2015, is the foundation ‘t O-tje independent. Residents of the housing blocks on the Nieuwenhoornstraat 133-143, Verboomstraat 174-184 and Struitenweg 52, have control over the private gardens and the related areas. ‘t O-tje is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to improve the living environment of ‘t Otje and to show the artistic development of the artists.
